When the calendar turns to September, prime cycling season arrives here in South Eastern Ontario. The days are usually a bit cooler and there is less humidity than earlier in the summer, making conditions just right to hop on your bike and enjoy a ride.

Lennox & Addington offers some of the best road cycling routes in the province. Our County roads are in terrific shape, and many are equipped with extended paved shoulders that provide added safety to riders.

Favourite Paddling Destinations in L&A

If you enjoy the outdoors, Lennox & Addington is a great place to be. There are many trails to hike or ride, and nearly countless lakes and rivers to explore.

Growing up I spent a lot of time at my grandparents' cottage on Beaver Lake. Most every day I could be found either in my Pop's old fishing boat, or paddling along the shoreline in a canoe.

Fast forward twenty-plus years and, despite my childhood love of being out on the water, I rarely had the opportunity to do so. Life is busy and time flies.

Teeing it up in L&A County

I'm not a good golfer. Yes, I have a set of golf clubs. I own a pair of golf shoes. I have ample golf balls stored away in my big fancy golf bag. I may look the part. But make no mistake, I'm not a good golfer. Not by a long shot.

That's what's great about golf. For the average duffer, once you accept the fact that you're not going to make it look easy, you can still have fun shanking shots from the rough to the bunker to the occasional fairway and green.

Geocaching in L&A County Comes Naturally

I've been geocaching for over ten years now, and have travelled throughout North America seeking those little containers hidden in some truly awesome spots.

I found my first ever geocache right here in Napanee on January 12, 2009. It was called “Paper House” and it was located at N 44° 15.577 W076° 58.257, or for you non-geocachers, near Walmart. Being new to Napanee and not knowing much of the area, I thought it would be a good idea to use geocaching as a way to tour my new home town, and that is just what I did.

North & South Meet at Mellon Lake in #UnspoiledLA

The Lennox & Addington County boundaries fall within a long and narrow portion of Eastern Ontario. Driving from the most southerly point of Amherst Island north to the hamlet of Denbigh takes well over two hours to complete.

It's a beautiful journey. Southern views are dotted with bustling rural communities and areas of actively farmed land. The northern portion of the County is dominated by the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield and too many lakes & rivers to count.

Get a Hands-on Bee Experience in Tamworth

There's a unique agri-tourism attraction here in Lennox & Addington that is generating a lot of buzz, both literally and figuratively.

I recently had the opportunity to visit The Bee Spot, a small family-operated apiary located at 695 Addison Street in Tamworth, to take part in their new "Bee Experience".

Menzel Centennial one of L&A County's best kept secrets

There’s definitely a lot to see and do here in Lennox & Addington County, particularly if you enjoy getting out and exploring our natural surroundings.

One of my favourite hiking destinations could be L&A County's best-kept secret for nature lovers. Menzel Centennial Provincial Nature Reserve is located on Roblin Road, about 4.5 kilometres west of County Road 41 near the hamlet of Roblin.

Find Unspoiled Natural Beauty at Beaver Lake

Beaver Lake could very well be my favourite place to visit in all of Lennox & Addington County. My grandparents lived on North Beaver and I spent a lot of my childhood there. I have many fond memories of my brother and I catching frogs, searching for crayfish, going canoeing, and taking rides in my Pop's old boat.

It had been a while since I had made the trip back to the lake so I took advantage of a sunny afternoon to spend some time out on the water. I loaded my kayak and fishing rod in the truck and off I went.
