National Access Awareness Week - May 26 to June 1, 2019

The County of Lennox and Addington is recognizing National Access Awareness Week by highlighting the work of the Accessibility Advisory Committee and its ongoing initiatives to increase accessibility for people with disabilities in our community.  

Established in 1988, this observance is in response to a request from Canadian Paralympic athlete Rick Hansen following his Man in Motion World Tour. Rick leads the charge in removing barriers faced by people with disabilities.

Quinte Conservation Issues a Flood Warning For Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte

Lake Ontario water levels have been quickly rising over the past week. Lake Ontario will continue to rise as high inflows and reduced outflows continue.

As of May 15, 2019, Lake Ontario was recorded at 68 cm above average for this time of year, which is 14 cm below the recorded level for May 15, 2017. This amount is 17 cm below the peak recorded on May 25, 2017.

County Council Tours Northern Lennox & Addington County

Lennox and Addington County Council had the opportunity to tour facilities and visit attractions in the Northern part of the County on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Scattered with lakes and forests this region is a popular recreational and tourism area. From geocaching, camping, motorcycle tours and stargazing, Northern Lennox and Addington provides opportunity for new business ventures, while stable and prosperous communities offer an enticing home.

Telling Your Story

Over the past month, the L&A Libraries have been running a series of memoir writing workshops at our Amherstview and Napanee Branches. These workshops, which were filled to capacity, have since been completed, but the participants will have the opportunity to “tell their story” in May by presenting their finished products. Everyone is welcome to attend these presentations at the Amherstview Branch (May 9th, 7pm) or the Napanee Branch (May 7th, 7pm).

Flood Warning Update #1 for Quinte Conservation Watershed

The flood warning issued for the Quinte Conservation Watershed on April 22, 2019 remains in effect. This update is to inform municipalities and the public on the changing conditions expected throughout the watershed over the next week.

Widespread rainfall ranging from 25 mm to over 50 mm has been forecasted for the Quinte Watershed on Friday, April 26. The amount of rain expected varies by location. It is unclear at this time how much rain will fall.
