Coleen recently enjoyed Ghost's Journey, a sweet children's book about the true story of a refugee couple from Indonesia as told by their cat. Here is her review:

Love, a cat and a good cause – triple the goodness to this new juvenile pick by Robin Stevenson: Ghost’s Journey: A Refugee Story.

Ghost the cat, is the ‘fur-baby’ of Dads Rainer and Eka, who are forced to relocate their home several times and live in fear, until they finally arrive in Canada. Here they find support from friends and a fresh start – and they brought Ghost along too.

The story is told from Ghost’s perspective, which gives it childlike appeal, while introducing a difficult topic to your children. The hatred and violence that Rainer and Eka experience, is balanced with their love for each other and for Ghost. The illustrations are made from Rainer’s photographs and pop from the page with texture, as you learn about Ghost’s travels. When they finally arrive in Canada, we see the joy and peaceful calm that envelopes their lives.

If you want to gift the book this Christmas, the author’s royalties are donated to support LGBTQ+ refugees, and Rainer and Eka are donating to help animals in need find homes – so a gift you can feel great about giving.
