Re: Re-opening of Businesses and Workplaces

The provincial government released A Framework for Reopening our Province on April 27, 2020, which provides a phased approach for re-opening businesses and workplaces. Since the release of the framework, the Premier has announced a number of businesses that may re-open with some conditions.

We have heard from many local businesses and business organizations that they would like to be prepared for when restrictions are lifted. At this time, we would encourage you to visit the Government of Ontario website for sector-specific guidance on how to make your business/workplace safe for both employees and the public.

From a public health perspective, the guidance we have been providing throughout the COVID-19 pandemic stands:

• Practise physical distancing.
• Practise routine infection prevention measures.
• Increase the frequency of environmental cleaning.
• Consider alternative ways to work.
• Stay home when you’re sick.

KFL&A Public Health continues to update its website with information relevant to businesses and workplaces. We are also investigating additional mechanisms through which we can provide guidance and support and will update you when those become available. And, we are promoting the message of stay local and support local businesses, which is synergistic with other campaigns that are happening in the region. We recognize the impact the pandemic has had on the local business community and thank you for all of your efforts to stop the spread of this virus. While we have been successful in fighting the first wave, we are not out of the woods yet and must remain vigilant in our efforts. We all have a role to play in keeping our community safe and healthy and KFL&A Public Health will continue to provide resources and information to support businesses in their re-opening process.
