Our Ordinary, Extraordinary Lives is an exhibit at the Museum of Lennox & Addington that speaks to this message through vibrant photography, commentary, and art. Our families today may look different from families 150 years ago, but this fact transcends time - Our Ordinary, is the Extraordinary.

Rochette-Fitzgerald Family

"The Rochette family has the perfect combination of kind hearts and entrepreneurial spirit. Fittingly, it was always their dream to settle down on an acreage where they could share nature with others. They now run two businesses on their property: Bee Spot and the Hidden Meadows. They raise bees and run bee tours, make honey, and host wedding ceremonies on their 50 acres of wildflowers. Nadine is the matriarch of the family and the business, and she took me for a bee tour on the morning of our photoshoot. We donned our protective outfits and went to examine the hives. One of my favourite photographs is of Nadine, smoker in hand, looking away from me toward all the hives, with the beautiful greenery of her land and the blue sky above. What an idyllic setting! I learned a lot about bees that day, and I got a little glimpse of what life is like for a beekeeper. It takes a lot of patience, love, and care, to raise healthy beehives. I took a jar of honey home with me and it was delicious."
