Ryan Moore humbly admits that the biggest challenge he faced when purchasing the long-established Hart N Hart Signs and Promotions company eight years ago was “to not mess it up.”

A hometown Napanee boy, Moore had decided to come back home after a number of years working in the IT department of a major telecommunications firm in Toronto, wanting to own his own business and preferring to do so in the town in which he was raised.

“My mom was the bookkeeper here so I knew it was a very good business. And I had a history of being involved in the community and in local sports so when I heard the previous owner was looking to retire I thought this was a great opportunity,” said Moore. “It’s really one of the main reasons I moved back to town.”

Hart N Hart had been supplying a variety of promotional products and signage for more then two decades. It boasted an excellent staff and an impressive roster of corporate, municipal and organizational clients, which Moore and his team have not only been able to retain, but also add to significantly.

“Our biggest customers are folks like L&A County General Hospital, The Town of Greater Napanee, Loyalist Golf and Country Club and I do a lot of uniforms and embroidery for minor sports organizations. I do everything from signage, embroidery, uniforms and screen printing for promotional items like coffee mugs, pens and things like that,” he explained.

“We also do things for a number of other small businesses in the community, the mom and pop places – any kind of small business where we can really help them with all aspects of branding.”

Another challenge has been staying on top of trends in marketing and branding as well as in new technology. The staff at the L&A County Economic Development Department helped Hart N Hart obtain funding got technologically-advanced, and environmentally sustainable embroidery equipment in early 2016, a key to remaining competitive and to offering better and more rapid service to their growing customer base.

“We are pretty technology based, so things are always evolving and changing and that change is quite rapid. The folks at L&A County helped with a lot of the paperwork to help us get a PELA CFDC grant for the equipment. And they have also been really supportive of my business when the county is doing big special events and sporting tournaments. It’s a really great and supportive place to live and do business, for sure,” he said.
