Mac and Jean Storey had a great little snack bar in the 50’s. The snack bar was located on the Old Hamburg Road as you come out of Napanee by way of the rock cut. Mac and Jean opened their business July 16, 1950 and it soon became a popular place for many.

When they first opened, it was open during the evenings but then soon expanded their hours from 11am until 12pm. People stopped there after being to the show downstreet in Napanee or after a dance upstairs in the Old Town Hall, or just for a quick lunch.

Mac's Snack BarAt the snack bar you could order homemade hamburgers and fresh cut fries, hotdogs, drinks, milkshakes and ice cream in many flavours. Fish and chips was always their special. They also sold chocolate bars, gum, lifesavers and cigarettes . In the snack bar you sat up to a counter on stools.

A young lad, David Johnson worked there. Years later he and his wife Jean opened their own catering business “Jean Johnson’s Catering” which I’m sure many of you readers have used through the years.

Mac worked for years at Wilson’s Hardware Store in downtown Napanee. He was their repair man for water pumps, oil burners, lawnmowers and was their delivery man.

This little snack bar was always a friendly place to chat with a neighbour and get a good meal at the same time. In November 1960, a fire gutted the inside of the snack bar and the Storey’s decided not to rebuild.

Although it's long-gone, I still have many fond memories of Mac’s Snack Bar.
