Today, the Hartin Grocery Store sits quietly in the Village of Roblin. A thriving business at one time, owned and operated by Dorland and Evelyn Hartin.

The store was the life line to many families and without the generosity of Dorland and Evelyn during such hard times many children would have gone to bed with growling bellies. Dorland would never turn a family down, rolls of Bologna, racks of bread (5 for a dollar), many essentials of life would be packed into the large brown paper bags.

Men in the village would gather throughout the day at the store. A green bench was parked along the front of the store, where many children would sit and eat a huge 5 cent ice-cream cone or 5 cent bag of chips. I admired the man with the gold tooth, sincere laugh and generous heart. The post office also resided inside the store.

Hartin's General store became famous for their 5 cent ice cream, people flocked to the store for a cone. The store also had gas pumps, were you were served, your oil checked, windshield cleaned and you handed cash to the gas attendant. I'm so thankful to Dorland and Evelyn and their kindness and support to our community. The store may sit quietly but the legacy of this lovely, hard working couple lives on forever.

~ Do you have any old photos of Roblin? We'd love to see them! ~
