Marg Wood from the Napanee Branch recently enjoyed Mother Knows Best by Kira Peikoff, a dark and suspenseful story that questions "how far moral, medical and ethical boundaries should be stretched when it comes to human reproduction." Here is Marg's review:

Clair and Ethan Abrams are mourning the loss of their 8 year-old son Colton to a genetic abnormality passed on through Clair’s DNA. Desperate to have a healthy child Clair turns to fertility expert Robert Nash and his genius (albeit not-too-stable) assistant Jillian whose leading-edge research offers hope that she could indeed give birth to a biological child of her own free from genetic fallout. The doctors come up with a not quite legal or ethical plan to combine the healthy DNA from Clair’s eggs with Jillian’s and in essence they produce the first three-parent embryo. Things progress well with Clair’s pregnancy until the FDA and the press discover what transpired in Dr. Nash’s laboratory forcing Clair into hiding to protect her unborn child.

Flash forward ten years and Abby, the child produced from these unusual circumstances and her parents, who are still in hiding, once again come in contact will Jillian who after serving time in prison is hell-bent on revenge.

This family drama/physiological thriller is a dark, suspenseful and exciting story sure to make you question how far moral, medical and ethical boundaries should be stretched when it comes to human reproduction.
