Karen Scott, Bath Branch Coordinator, recently enjoyed Good Riddance by Elinor Lipman, which she describes as "an engaging, witty, intricately plotted story of both family relationships and romance." Here is her review:

"Good Riddance is an engaging, witty, intricately plotted story of both family relationships and romance. When Daphne’s mother dies, she specifies that Daphne should have her copy of the 1968 Pickering High School yearbook, for which her mother was the advisor.  The book is full of student dedications, and notes her mother made after attending high school reunions – none of which mean anything to Daphne.  While decluttering her tiny New York apartment, Daphne holds the yearbook to her chest and finds it doesn’t “spark joy” and so she puts it in the recycling bin at the end of the hall.  Her nosy neighbour, a self-proclaimed documentary maker, picks it up and wants to turn it into a documentary.  The two end up heading off to the class of ‘68’s 50th reunion, and there Daphne uncovers an old family secret … and a desire to get the yearbook back.  Throw in the sexy actor across the hall; Daphne’s father Tom, who’s retired and moved to New York and become a dog walker; the charming lady he meets through his job; and politician Peter Armstrong – one of her mother’s former students –  and the stage is set for this light-hearted examination of just what constitutes family."
