There have been plenty of BIG books this year; that is, books so popular that it is difficult to keep up with demand. While some of the titles featured below have cooled off a bit in recent months, they still have plenty of readers raving about them. Read ahead to find out if any of your 2018 favorites have made the list, and consider trying another book that shares many of the same themes or reading appeals.

If you liked Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell, try She’s Not There by Joy Fielding

Deftly combining sympathetic characters, surprising plot twists, and an element of dark mystery, these novels center on women whose families have been forever upended years earlier by a child's disappearance. Each captures the tragedy's effects on both parents, and their remaining children.

If you liked The Home for Unwanted Girls by Joanna Goodman, try Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline

The quest for home, family and belonging anchors these moving, character-driven historical fiction novels. Orphan Train's orphaned heroine Vivian struggles to survive her rough and tumble childhood in Depression-era Minnesota whereas The Home for Unwanted Girls’ Maggie searches for the daughter she gave up for adoption years before in 1950s Quebec.

If you liked Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan, try Family Trust by Kathy Wang

Witty, engaging and super high-drama, these juicy novels follow the adventures of moneyed Asian families in Singapore (in the case of Crazy Rich Asians) and Silicon Valley (in the case of the forthcoming novel The Family Trust). Wealth, status and complicated family dynamics feature prominently in both books.

If you liked The Perfect Mother try The Perfect Nanny by Leah Slimani

These compelling psychological suspense novels focus on the anxieties of modern day motherhood. Both use multiple perspectives to unfold the narrative and ratchet up the tension, but The Perfect Mother offers more twists and turns whereas The Perfect Nanny is more of a dark and literary slow burn.

If you liked The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn, try The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware

Coping with traumatic events, the protagonists of these gripping novels don't trust their own memories after witnessing a crime that everyone surrounding them claims never happened. These high-octane thrillers are full of twists and turns, feature flawed (and boozy!) characters, and create a deep sense of foreboding.

If you like The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris, try Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly

Heartwrenching historical fiction based upon true events, these stories of survival in Nazi concentration camps are equal parts inspiring and harrowing. Both religiously diverse novels are testaments to the human spirit and the implacable evil that humanity is up against.

If you liked The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks, try The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liz Constantine

In each of these twisted psychological suspense novels, a woman stalks her rival – but all is not as it seems! Both are intricate tales of deceit and manipulation, but The Last Mrs. Parrish features a desperate social climber whereas The Wife Between Us involves a troubled ex. Both of these compelling characters find a way to disrupt a seemingly perfect marriage.

If you liked Surprise Me by Sophie Kinsella, try The Arrangement by Sarah Dunn

Married couples looking to breathe new life to their relationships find their experiments (planning surprises for each other in Surprise Me, and embarking upon an open marriage in The Arrangement) only serve to expose cracks in their emotional foundations. Both offer sympathetic, likable characters, and a strong dose of humour.

If you liked Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate, try Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain

Social engineering schemes, aided and abetted by corrupt government officials, harm marginalized people in the rural American South in these heartwrenching historical novels. Before We Were Yours deals with child trafficking in Tennessee whereas Necessary Lies explores the legacy of North Carolina's eugenics programs but both are heartfelt page-turners.
