Church Family Records

Malachi Church, born 24 Jun 1732 in Hadley, Hampshire, Massachusetts, married Elizabeth Mills on 30 April 1756 at Westfield, Massachusetts. They had two sons, Oliver Church (1756-1817) and Jonathan Mills Church (1760-1846). Malachi died in Quebec before his sons located to the Bay of Quinte.

Malachi was a Captain in Robert Rogers Corp during the Revolutionary War, and his son Lt. Oliver Church served in the 2nd Battalion King’s Royal Regiment of New York. Lt. Oliver Church married Jemima Richards in 1792, a daughter of John Richards, another Lennox & Addington Loyalist family. Lt. Oliver and Jemima Church also had a son Oliver Church Jr.

A recent donation of Church family records highlights a later generation of this pioneering family. Included in the donation is the 1854 will of John Church, brother of Oliver Church Jr., an 1859 will for his son William Church and a discharge of mortgage document for John Church Chamberlain, William’s nephew.  Having trouble keeping the Church family members straight?
