April showers make for the perfect days to visit the Lennox and Addington County Museum and Archives. During a recent visit to the museum, I was able to step back in time and view the area from a different perspective through the artwork of long time Amherst Island resident Shirley Miller, in the exhibit titled “Revisiting Special Moments: A Retrospective, Reflecting the life on Amherst Island, Friends and Family,” on display until April 6th.

The art of Shirley Miller line the limestone hallway of the museum leading you to permanent and free standing exhibits. I spent some time visiting the exhibits, experiencing what life was like along the Napanee River in the late 1800’s, had a meeting with Sir John A. MacDonald and then explored the rich history of the former Gibbard Furniture factory.

After visiting the exhibits and seeing the displays, I stopped by to see the resident archivist and to learn more about the history of Lennox and Addington. The archives have a wealth of information available with newspaper clippings, documentary records and photographs. Here I was able to find out the history and information on my property as well as learn about the Loyalists and their connection with Lennox and Addington County and how they may fit into my family tree.
