What is the victim fine surcharge?

As of January 1, 1995 all provincial offences fines except for parking infractions carry a victim fine surcharge. All surcharge monies are credited to the Victim’s Justice Fund. Money in the fund is used to support programs that provide assistance to victims or witnesses of a provincial or federal crime.

What happens if I don’t do anything after I have received a ticket?

After 44 days have passed from the date of offence, the charge is placed on a Fail to Respond docket. The certificates are reviewed by the Clerk and he/she may convict you in absentia.

What if I can’t attend my Court Hearing?

If you need to change the date of your court hearing, you must contact the court office by email at least three business days before your scheduled hearing date. You can also complete the Notice of Motion Form.

How do I find out about my driving record or the status of my driver’s licence?

All suspensions and driving record information is maintained and administered by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO). If you need to inquire about your driving record or the status of your driver’s licence, please contact MTO, Driver Control, at 1-800-303-4993. You can also perform a drivers licence check online through the MTO.

How can I resolve my matter if there is no early resolution option on the offence notice?

If you have been charged with an offence under the POA for which there is no early resolution option on the offence notice, you may discuss a resolution of your matter prior to your court date by contacting the Prosecution office with your file number and court date on hand.
Some offences are prosecuted by Provincial Prosecutors and the Municipal Prosecutor will advise you if this is the case.
NOTE: If a resolution is reached you must still attend court on your scheduled trial date to enter the resolution on the record. You also have the option to pay your ticket out of court any time prior to your trial.
