Your Typical Day
Savour Great Dining
Dining is a special time at our home. Each resident home area features a kitchen and dining room. Small family dining rooms in each area, decorated with Gibbard furniture made in Napanee, provide a delightful setting for family get-togethers and special occasions. The warm fireplaces and rich fabrics create a cozy environment for our delicious meals. We invite you to spend special, intimate times with family and friends in the separate, formal dining room in each resident’s home area.
Three well-balanced meals are served each day with snacks and beverages in between. You’ll meet with a dietitian when you first move in to make sure your dietary needs are met and to tell dietary staff what your dietary preferences are. All meals are prepared on-site. If you like to sleep in, a continental breakfast is always available, too. Coffee and tea are available all day.
Meal times are as follows:
Breakfast: 8:15 – 9:00am
Lunch: 12:00 – 1:00pm
Supper: 5:00 – 5:45pm
Enjoy Well-Being and Energy
We like to pamper our residents. Each “resident home area” in The John M. Parrott Centre has a spa. The spas have deep, luxurious tubs with heated towels and soft music. Residents have the choice to join different activities daily and include their families. We believe in creating an environment with experiences that help our residents restore their sense of well-being and energy. Residents decide how they wish to spend their time. There are options available for both small and large group activities seven days a week.
Explore “The Village”
When the Residents who live in the John M. Parrott Centre leave their Resident Home Areas, they enter the Neighbourhood or “the Village.” As they stroll down the “village streets,” residents can visit the Village Salon, the General Store, the Library and one of two Tea Rooms.
The meandering, colourful gardens have comfortable sitting areas and special accessible planters for those with green thumbs. The home gardens offer a wide variety of perennial flowers, vegetable gardens, garden sheds and bird feeders. There are shaded areas to sit under while you enjoy listening to the wildlife that surrounds you.
The front community garden boasts outdoor musical pieces for all to engage with. Off of the community garden features a paved walking trail that takes you on a meandering path to the back of the Home where you can stop and enjoy the outdoors under a gazebo as you take in a beautiful summer day.
A very special destination is the Village Chapel. The Chapel, with its beautiful windows, overlooks the gardens and offers a quiet retreat for contemplation, a sanctuary for memorial services, and a setting for spiritual celebrations.
The Tea Room is a favourite setting for an afternoon respite with family and friends. A pot of tea and freshly-baked cookies are always conducive to fellowship and conversation.
As you walk through the village, to MacDonald Hall – the gathering place – you can experience fun group games, reminiscing, craft fairs, musical entertainment, church teas, movie nights, exercise classes, and craft times.
Family and friends can also join residents for lemonade or iced tea on the veranda, on the sun porches or in the gazebo. The sunroom is the perfect place for a game of cribbage, crokinole or cards.
As you stroll through the resident home areas at The John M. Parrott Centre, you will hear the residuum of piano and notice residents gathered by the fire, reading in the library, watching television in the living room or settled in a comfortable chair on the veranda. Residents can watch the sunset from the gardens or porches.
Hairdressing and Barber Services
A full-service hair care salon is located on site. Our hairdresser offers a full range of services on a fee-for-service basis. Arrangements will be made to have the cost of hair care services taken out of the Resident Trust account (see the Resident’s Guidebook). Stroll Through the Garden
The meandering, colourful gardens have comfortable sitting areas and special mobile/accessible planters for those with green thumbs. The Home gardens feature perennial flower beds that attract butterflies and birds for residents to enjoy. Raised flower beds and vegetable gardens support residents’ ongoing interest and hobbies in tending to these gardens. Residents enjoy cultivating the vegetables and eating a fresh cucumber or toasted tomato sandwich!
Be Spiritual
A Chapel is located on the east end of MacDonald Hall offering an area for quiet reflection complete with stained glass windows and a beautiful view of the Community Garden.
The pastoral care program is coordinated by our Spiritual Wellness Worker. A service is held each Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel. These services are conducted by area clergy. Interfaith communion services are held during the week and are posted as to the date and time. All residents and families are welcome to attend.
Other important components of our pastoral care program include memorial services, World Day of Prayer, and Remembrance Day services.
Enjoy Housekeeping, Laundry and Maintenance Services
The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for all housekeeping, laundry and maintenance services within the building.
All rooms are completely furnished. However, residents may bring in personal articles as space permits. We ask that personal furniture be clean and in good repair. Housekeeping staff is responsible for keeping resident rooms as well as the whole Home clean.
We ask that all personal belongings (except for clothing labeled by our staff) be labeled with the resident’s name.
Bedding, linen, washcloths and towels are supplied by The John M. Parrott Centre.
Electronic equipment such as radios and televisions must be C.S.A. approved and inspected by the Maintenance Department prior to use, to ensure that cords, plugs, etc., are in good condition. Small appliances such as kettles, heaters and refrigerators are prohibited in resident rooms. For more information, please contact us.
Mail & Stamps
Outgoing mail may be deposited in the mailbox, which is located at the Welcome Centre. Stamps can be purchased at the Tuck Shop. Incoming mail is delivered to each resident’s room by staff, Monday through Friday.
Get a Good Night’s Sleep
At the end of the day, residents can return to their individual bedrooms, each of which is tastefully decorated with soft, warm colours; individual temperature controls: and memory boxes with mementoes of special times and special people. Each room reflects the resident’s personality.
Staying Connected with the Community
- Interested Residents participate in area Alzheimers awareness days.
- Residents take day trips periodically to area shopping centers, local fishing trips, visits to the Lennox & Addington County Museum, and sight-seeing bus trips.
- Residents also thoroughly enjoy having visits from local antique car groups, motorcycle clubs, farm animals, and makers markets.
Safety & Preparation for Emergency
Safety at The John M. Parrott Centre is of prime importance. Each resident has access to a nurse call bell, which is located at the head of each bed and in the bathroom. The bell may also be attached to the bed linen to provide easier access.
All exit doors are equipped with mag locks and an alarm system. Access to the building is by coded access through the front door.
Residents who may be at risk of going outside may be provided with a wanderguard bracelet that will prevent the main door from opening and send an alert to staff.

On-site External Services
While this service is not covered by the accommodation fees, you might be eligible for government coverage.
Dental Services
Multigen is our contracted mobile dental service provider. They come into the Home on a regular basis to provide dental exams, full-service cleanings, extractions and fillings, as well as denture services. All services are authorized by the resident/responsible party. Private dental hygienists are also available for residents to access for cleanings. (contact information is available on the information board beside the reception desk or in the Family Newsletter)
Hearing Aids
We have a choice of Hearing Instrument Specialists who will come into the Home to provide in-house support to your existing hearing aid or to test and fit for a new hearing aid. You or your family would arrange directly with the provider as to schedule and payment.
Foot Care
There are a number of private foot care providers who regularly come into the John M. Parrott Centre. You or your family would arrange directly with the provider as to schedule and payment.
Physiotherapy
You can access restorative and physiotherapy services for free. Physiotherapy, a contracted service, is provided by a full-time Physiotherapist and one Physiotherapy Aide. They provide walking, strengthening, balance exercises, etc. in keeping with a goal-based restorative plan. Practitioners are in-house five days a week to serve residents.

How does Lennox & Addington County ensure the quality of long-term care services?
Lennox & Addington County, County Council and the John M Parrott Centre along with the Ministry of Long-Term Care have robust regulations, quality standards, policies and procedures that are grounded in prevailing best practices. The Home is regularly inspected by the Ministry of Long Term Care and the outcome of these inspections are posted on the Ministry website as well as internally within the Home. Staff receive annual training on Ministry mandated topics as well as topics that support ongoing growth and development for the staff. The Continous Quality Improvement Team meets regularly with representation from both Resident and Family Council.
Can residents of The John M Parrott Centre personalize their plans of care?
Yes, residents can personalize their care plans. The Home will work with residents and their families to understand their specific needs and preferences, ensuring that care plans are tailored to be resident-centered and enhance their quality of life.
What are the options for long-term care in Lennox & Addington County for those with limited financial resources?
The Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care provides subsidies for residents of long-term care homes for those with limited financial resources. The subsidy amount depends on the resident’s income and is determined through a financial assessment that can be done at the time of application for placement or by the Home at the time of admission. Additionally, there are community programs and services aimed at supporting low-income seniors with home care and other assistance to help them remain in their homes as long as possible.

These groups ensure all criteria have been met before referring you to the John M. Parrott Centre for admission. You cannot apply to the John M. Parrott Centre direcly.
