Staff Picks: Recipe for a Perfect Wife

Catherine

Patricia from the Napanee Branch recently enjoyed Recipe for a Perfect Wife, the latest book by one of her favourite authors Karma Brown. Here is her review:

Full disclosure – I am a Karma Brown fan. Every year I look forward to her upcoming book and devour it as soon as it arrives. Brown’s latest book Recipe for a Perfect Wife did not disappoint. In this dual narrative, the reader gets to know Alice and Nellie through an old house, an old cookbook, and letters.

As we all enter into the unknown territory of school closures, telework and remote learning, kid lit authors and illustrators have been stepping up to help. In order to support schools and public libraries forced to close due to the escalating COVID-19 outbreak, some of your favourite authors have been sharing storytime and read-aloud videos and live events.

Staff Picks: The Empty Bed

Catherine

Andree Duval, Relief Librarian, recently enjoyed The Empty Bed by Nina Sadowksy, an exciting internationally-set mystery.

The Empty Bed is Nina Sadowsky’s second thriller about The Burial Society, a private organization that helps people in danger. The story unfolds in alternating chapters voiced by several characters providing multiple perspectives on the main story and subplots. The intense pace of the novel delivers a cinematic feel.
