County Council asks for Equal Treatment for Lennox and Addington’s Vulnerable Population

March 25, 2021– At their March 24, 2021 virtual meeting, County Council passed a resolution asking the Minister of Long-Term Care to provide funding for Lennox and Addington’s Community Paramedic Program. The Ministry recently announced funding to expand Community Paramedics to Long-Term Care in order to meet the needs of the targeted-LTC related population. At the time of the announcement, Lennox and Addington County did not have a community paramedic program and was not eligible to apply.

Better Cellular Services Coming to Eastern Ontario Residents and Businesses

(March 19, 2021 – EASTERN ON) – Strong and reliable cellular services are critical to help rural communities take part in the economy, create jobs and improve public safety. Together, Canada, Ontario and municipal governments across Eastern Ontario are supporting the Eastern Ontario Regional Network’s Cell Gap Project that will improve both the reach and quality of cellular services throughout the region.

Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) Submits Proposal for Ultra-Fast Gig Internet Project

(March 1, 2021) – The Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) has made a formal submission to the federal and provincial governments seeking support to deliver ultra-fast Gig internet to homes and businesses across the region. The submission has been sent to federal Minister Maryam Monsef, who has responsibility for rural economic development, and Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure Laurie Scott, who is tasked with rural broadband matters for the province.

Volunteers Needed - Rural Frontenac Lennox & Addington COVID Vaccine Clinic

In collaboration with FLA Ontario Health Team and multiple partners, RFLA are preparing for future vaccine clinics in RFLA region.  A clinic will be held 7 days/week, including 1-2 days/week at satellite sites in the region. Hoping to start before the end of March.

NOTE: RFLA do not yet have any vaccines, nor have clinic dates or locations been finalized.

Keep KFL&A Region Open and Safe

Tuesday February 09, 2021- Yesterday, the government of Ontario announced a regional approach to lift the Stay-at-Home order and move three regions in Ontario to Green-Prevent level, including the Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox & Addington (KFL&A) region.

This change will be effective Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 12:01 a.m.

EOWC Participates in Successful ROMA 2021 Conference

Eastern Ontario, January 27, 2021 – Members of the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC) joined rural municipal colleagues from across Ontario at the first-ever virtual Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference, which took place online from January 24 to 26, 2021.

At the virtual conference, EOWC members met with various provincial Ministers as well as the NDP Caucus to discuss priority issues for the region, including:

  • Derek Sloan, MP for Hastings-Lennox and Addington provided an update on activities of his office as well as the Federal Government.  Members of Council had the opportunity to ask questions about current issues in the County including illegal cannabis grow-ops and their ramifications.

County Courthouse Flag Flying at Half Mast

The flag at the County Courthouse is currently flying at half mast in recognition of the passing of former Prime Minister John Turner. Former PM Turner died on Sept 19th at the age of 91.  The Canadian government also announced a half-masting of the national flags on the Peace Tower and all federal buildings and establishments in Canada to honour Turner’s memory. Flags will remain at half-mast until the day of his funeral on Oct 6th.

Courts are reopening in phases to ensure the necessary health and safety precautions are in place  The public are encouraged not to attend the court house unless they have matters before the court.
