TD Summer Reading Club 2019

TD Summer Reading Club is Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, all interests, and all abilities. It’s designed to inspire kids to explore the fun of reading their way – the key to building a lifelong love of reading. Here is the calendar.

New: Free G1 Practice Tests

We’re partnering with G1.ca, a company dedicated to driver safety and education, to offer free G1 practice tests to library patrons. The new service includes free tests written specifically based on the official ON Ministry of Transportation driver’s handbook.

Characters on the edge

A character-driven reader is someone who reads in order to get into the head of an interesting character -- this is different from those who read for setting, storyline or prose. A book with character as its biggest appeal is a book in which readers feel so connected with the characters that when the book is over, they feel they lost someone dear to them. However, there is more than one type of character-driven reader and there is more than one type of character-driven book.

What I'll Be Reading This Summer

Now that summer is clearly upon us and the weather is warming up, it is once again time to make reading an outside activity. In my opinion, there isn't anything more relaxing...assuming the mosquitos are in check!  Luckily, there are all kinds of great new and forthcoming releases to choose from. Here are five books that are on my radar for summer reading.

A successful book club pick must accomplish many things. For starters, it has to be a compelling read so  the busy people in your club will make time to devour it. It must also be thought-provoking enough to prompt a passionate conversation. It's no wonder that picking your book club's next book can feel like so much pressure!
