Lennox and Addington County Council will hold a Special Meeting

Lennox and Addington County Council will hold a Special Meeting on Tuesday, March 3rd at 6:00 pm in the Committee Room of the County Court House at 97 Thomas Street East, Napanee.  At that time, Council will consider results of an RFP for the Modernization of Development Processes in Lennox and Addington County.  The meeting is open to the public.

Lennox and Addington County invites applications from residents interested in being considered for appointment to the Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee.

The Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee is dedicated to identifying barriers and improving accessibility and opportunities for people with disabilities. Committee members are appointed for a two-year term. County Council will appoint members to fill the following vacancy:

County Staff Help Women Dress for Success

July 5, 2019 – For the second year in a row, staff at the County of Lennox and Addington held a clothing drive in support of Dress for Success Kingston.  Several boxes of new and gently used clothing, shoes, purses and jewelry were donated which will be suitable for women attending interviews or work.

The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

 

Council Honours Steve Fox

June 27, 2019 – At their Regular meeting held June 26, County Council honoured Stephen Fox who is retiring this week after a career that spanned 30 years as the Director, Financial Services/Treasurer for the County of Lennox and Addington.  Past Wardens Bill Lowry and Gord Schermerhorn were in attendance at the meeting.

Productive discussion between EOWC and Eastern Ontario Provincial MPPS

Picton, May 27, 2019 – Members of the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC) held a constructive meeting with their provincial counterparts last Friday, May 24, to discuss issues of interest for Eastern Ontario such as affordable housing, health care, emergency services, and financial impacts on municipal service delivery.

The meeting, co-hosted by EOWC Chair Andy Letham and MPP Todd Smith (also Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade), is an annual gathering of Provincial MPPs and the heads of Council from across the region.

Improved Cell Coverage coming to Lennox and Addington County

Members of Lennox and Addington County Council were delighted by the provincial funding announcement of $71 million to expand and improve wireless broadband infrastructure across Eastern Ontario.

Last week, Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure, Monte McNaughton announced that the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) will receive the funding to help fill gaps in mobile broadband coverage. Currently there are significant gaps in both the reach and capacity of mobile broadband networks across areas of rural Eastern Ontario including significant gaps in Lennox and Addington.

National Access Awareness Week - May 26 to June 1, 2019

The County of Lennox and Addington is recognizing National Access Awareness Week by highlighting the work of the Accessibility Advisory Committee and its ongoing initiatives to increase accessibility for people with disabilities in our community.  

Established in 1988, this observance is in response to a request from Canadian Paralympic athlete Rick Hansen following his Man in Motion World Tour. Rick leads the charge in removing barriers faced by people with disabilities.

County Council Tours Northern Lennox & Addington County

Lennox and Addington County Council had the opportunity to tour facilities and visit attractions in the Northern part of the County on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Scattered with lakes and forests this region is a popular recreational and tourism area. From geocaching, camping, motorcycle tours and stargazing, Northern Lennox and Addington provides opportunity for new business ventures, while stable and prosperous communities offer an enticing home.

Vacant Tax Rebate and Reduction Programs

The County of Lennox & Addington is considering making changes to its Vacant Tax Rebate and Reduction Programs for Commercial & Industrial properties. These programs have been in place since the current property assessment system was implemented in 1998. The Province has now provided an opportunity to allow municipalities to tailor these programs based upon local needs.
