One of my duties with L&A County is that I manage the popular Dark Sky Viewing Area north of Erinsville. It's a pretty fun part of the job, even though I sometimes get home well after midnight.
Riverbank Rentals has returned to the the Napanee River waterfront in Downtown Napanee for it's second season of operation. It is located in the parking lot beside The Waterfront River Pub & Terrace at 22 Water Street. Owner Harley Cunningham has a variety of kayaks and paddleboards available to rent, making The Napanee River more accessible than ever before.
Many aren't aware that Lennox & Addington County manages more than 1,100 acres of forest on five parcels of land in Addington Highlands. The County Forest is certified according to the Forest Stewardship Council’s standards for sustainable forestry. Other than some signage at various points along the perimeter, the lands weren't actively promoted for the public's use.
There are no shortage of places in Lennox & Addington for nature lovers to explore. Beautiful parks, conservation areas, lakes and rivers are enjoyed throughout the county.
My kids and I have a little tent trailer and camp at a handful of provincial and state parks every summer. My favourite destination is undoubtedly Bon Echo Provincial Park. Located just north of Cloyne in L&A County, Bon Echo is the only park that we make an annual visit to.
South Eastern Ontario is finally experiencing seasonal temperatures so I decided to pack up the kayak and head to the Salmon River.
When I pulled my truck into the boat launch parking lot in Roblin, I immediately noticed the water level was about as high as I've ever seen it. Not at all surprising, considering the amount of rain we've encountered so far this spring.

When spring arrives, so too does the rain. We can't control the weather, but at least we can enjoy some of the effects of the steady showers in April and May.
I recently had a chance to get a first-hand look at some of the magnificent flows of water at locations across the County. I also happened to stop by a few bakeries and restaurants along the way.

A friend recently shared a photo of their bicycle ride on the Cataraqui Trail. A place on my ‘to visit in Lennox and Addington’ list that I’ve been meaning to cross off. Now that the leaves are starting to bud on the trees, and the ground was drying up, I decided to check out what was once the old CN Railway that crosses through Lennox and Addington County, and set out for an afternoon hike.
It was a beautiful spring day for a drive. Shortly after heading out, I found myself on the Loyalist Parkway enjoying the scenery along Lake Ontario.
The ferry to Amherst Island was right ahead, a place in Lennox and Addington County that I have yet to visit. With no firm plans for the day, I turned to join the line to board the new end loading ferry boat.
