County Council Tours Northern Lennox & Addington County

EOWC meets Eastern Ontario Federal MPs, discusses cell gap, budget

Kingston, April 18, 2019 – Members of the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC) and the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) held a constructive meeting with their federal counterparts today, as part of ongoing advocacy efforts to advance priority projects for Eastern Ontario and dialogue with the federal government on issues of interest.

Vacant Tax Rebate and Reduction Programs

The County of Lennox & Addington is considering making changes to its Vacant Tax Rebate and Reduction Programs for Commercial & Industrial properties. These programs have been in place since the current property assessment system was implemented in 1998. The Province has now provided an opportunity to allow municipalities to tailor these programs based upon local needs.

Eric Smith Acclaimed as Lennox and Addington County Warden for 2019

Quinte Conservation Declares Level 2 Low Water Condition for the Quinte Conservation Watershed

Quinte Conservation and the Low Water Response Team have declared a Level 2 Low Water Condition due to lack of rainfall and low flows throughout the Quinte Watershed.

Quinte Conservation Watershed Monitoring Coordinator Lynette Lambert says, “The long range forecasts do not show much rain and it looks as though the warm and dry conditions will continue into the fall.”

$36 Million for Rural High-Speed Internet Announced

Internet access is more than just a convenience: communities, businesses and institutions need it to offer new services and create new opportunities. That’s why, through an investment of over $10.8 million, the Government of Canada is helping 21 communities and up to 38 institutions in eastern Ontario get online with new or improved high-speed Internet access. Of the 21 communities that will benefit from this investment, one is an Indigenous community.

Eastern Ontario Federal MPs Voice Strong Support for Cellular Improvements

(June 27, 2018) The Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) is pleased that all Members of Parliament representing the region, and from across party lines, have signed strong letters of support to the federal government to help fund proposed cell service improvements for the region. 

EORN is proposing a $213 million public-private partnership to improve both the reach and quality of cellular data services in rural Eastern Ontario, which is essential for business investment, jobs and quality of life. 

Orchard Elected to Board of Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators

Fredericton, NB (May 31, 2018) – Brenda Orchard, Chief Administrative Officer for Lennox and Addington County, ON, has been elected to the board of directors for the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA).  She was elected as the CAMA Board Representative for Ontario during the association’s annual general meeting, held on May 29, 2017 at CAMA’s national conference in Fredericton, NB.
