'Life After the Great War' depicted in three new museum exhibits

The War Is Over and “Anything Goes” is the theme of this year’s temporary shows at the Lennox and Addington County Museum. The museum invites you to enjoy three new exhibits that explore life after the Great War. The stories you read and the images you see will leave a smile on your face- as you imagine what life was like in the riotous decade that was the 1920s.

The Life & Legacy of Dr. Oronhyatekha Discussed at the Next Tuesday Night at the Museum

Learn about the fascinating life and legacy of Dr. Oronhyatekha at the next edition of Tuesday Night at the Museum on May 15th at 7pm.

History professor Michelle Hamilton examines the remarkable life of London, Ontario physician Dr. Oronhyatekha (1841-1907). Born at Six Nations of the Grand River and rising to prominence in medicine and politics, he became embroiled in the controversial search for Tecumseh’s grave, lobbied for the vote for Indigenous peoples, and became the first non-white member and ultimately the Supreme Chief Ranger of the Independent Order of Foresters.

Gypsy Jazz music to be featured at the Museum & Archives on April 26th

You’re invited to a great night of music at the Lennox and Addington County Museum & Archives in Napanee on Thursday, April 26th at 7pm.

The evening’s entertainment features talented performers The Kitchen Gypsies. They play a fun Gypsy Jazz style of music from 1930’s France. The band features Suzanne Becker (Violin/Vocals), Ray Croxford (Bass), Ray Desrosiers (Accordion/Harmonica/Vocals), Gary Greer (Rhythm Guitar) and Ron Heidebrecht (Lead Guitar/Vocals).

Author Jane Simpson discusses “Soldier, Settler, Sinner” on April 17th

Learn the history of fiddle music in Canada at the Museum on March 20th

Fans of traditional Canadian fiddle music are in for a treat at the next edition of Tuesday Night at the Museum. On Tuesday, March 20th at 7pm, The Irish Trio presents the History of Fiddle Music in Canada.

Make your own hand felted shamrocks at Museum Kids on March 3rd

It's a St. Patrick’s Day-inspired edition of Museum Kids on Saturday, March 3rd at 10am. Adelle Webster from Glocca Morra Farms will be on hand to help kids make their very own hand felted shamrock brooch. 

Felting is the art of sticking wool fibres together with the use of a needle and foam block. The wool locks itself together with multiple punctures and becomes firm and pliable enough to create shapes and sculptures. Children aged 4-plus, with the assistance of a parent or guardian, will enjoy working on this fun craft.

Pysanky Workshop happening at the Museum & Archives on March 3rd

Spark Box Studios will be on hand at the Lennox & Addington County Museum & Archives to teach the art of Pysanky on Saturday, March 3rd from 1:30 - 3:30pm. This is the first in a new series of Heritage Arts Workshops happening at the museum, located at 97 Thomas Street East in Napanee.

Put your best ‘face’ forward at a mask-making edition of Museum Kids

It will be impossible to 'mask' your enthusiasm on February 3rd. Museum Kids presents a fun mask-making workshop with designer Clelia Scala beginning at 10am.

Clelia was previously at the Museum in December for a popular Finger Puppet edition of Museum Kids, and will undoubtedly impress again when she returns for this fun mask workshop. Clelia makes masks for theatre and film and has taught mask-making and puppet-making to groups of five to twenty-five people in classroom and workshop settings. Her masks have appeared on stages in Canada, the United States, and Europe.
