OTTAWA — At the 2026 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference, Nathan Townend, Director of Communications & Community Development, County of Lennox and Addington was elected to the AMO Board of Directors, representing the Rural Caucus.

More than 3,000 municipal leaders and delegates attended the sold-out Conference, held August 16–19 in Ottawa. The Conference also included more than 750 delegation meetings between municipal representatives and the provincial government.

AMO is a non-profit organization that represents Ontario’s 444 municipalities and works to ensure that provincial and federal decision makers understand the needs of the province’s diverse communities, ranging from large urban centers, small towns & rural villages, all the way to northern and remote areas.

“I am very honoured and excited to continue working on the AMO board in this new role and play a part in moving the needle on what matters to our municipalities and the residents we serve. I am truly humbled by the support I have received, and grateful to county council for their backing,” said Townend.

The County of Lennox and Addington join AMO in calling for action on municipal priorities that affect communities across Ontario, including:

• Long-term, predictable infrastructure funding to support housing, economic growth and the infrastructure communities need;
• Full provincial funding for health and social services that are provincial responsibilities; and
• Coordinated action and investment from all orders of government to address Ontario’s growing homelessness crisis.
