In 2019 the County of Lennox and Addington and the Town of Greater Napanee will be reconstructing Dundas Street West from Robinson Street to Hessford Street. The works includes the replacement of sanitary sewers, watermains, storm sewers, reinstatement of the roadway surface and sidewalks.

Dundas Street West is Open to Traffic Effective 11/29/2019 in PM

Please be advised that Dundas Street West from Robinson Street to Hessford Street is scheduled to RE-OPEN TO ALL TRAFFIC on the afternoon of Friday November 29, 2019.  

There may be intermittent lane closures on Dundas Street and the side streets while minor outstanding works and site cleanup are being completed.

NOTICE OF TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES

Construction on Dundas Street West in Napanee is progressing further to the west. Please be advised that commencing on Monday September 9th the road closure will be extended one block further west to Hessford Street. The following streets will then be CLOSED TO THRU TRAFFIC:

• Dundas Street West from West St to Hessford Street
• Robinson Street from Mill Street to Bridge Street

These closures will be in effect until further notice.  These closures are necessary to facilitate the re-construction of Dundas St W and Robinson St.  Emergency access to these closed blocks will be under the direction of on-site construction staff.

Ongoing notices will be provided to advise you of future block closures.  Notices will also be provided to advise you of impassable locations.

Construction on Dundas St West in Napanee is progressing further to the west.

Please be advised that commencing on Wednesday June 19th  the road closure will be extended two blocks further west to Simcoe St.  The following streets will then be CLOSED TO THRU TRAFFIC:

  • Dundas Street West from West Street to Simcoe Street
  • Robinson Street from Mill Street to Bridge Street

These closures will be in effect until further notice. These closures are necessary to facilitate the re-construction of Dundas Street West and Robinson Street. Emergency access to these closed blocks will be under the direction of on-site construction staff.

Please be advised that commencing on Monday April 8th the following streets in Napanee will be CLOSED TO THRU TRAFFIC:

  • Dundas St West from West St to Richard Street
  • Robinson St from Mill St to Bridge Street

These closures will be in effect until further notice. These closures are necessary to facilitate the re-construction of Dundas Street West and Robinson Street  Emergency access to these closed blocks will be under the direction of on-site construction staff.

Note that Dundas Street West will be under construction into the Fall of 2019.  Construction is commencing at Robinson Street and generally progressing to the west to Hessford Street.  Ongoing notices will be provided to advise you of future block closures. Notices will also be provided to advise you of impassable locations.


February 1, 2019 - Public Notice

Lennox and Addington County and Greater Napanee will be reconstructing Dundas Street from Robinson Street to 100m west of Hessford Street in 2019. The proposed works include the replacement of sanitary sewers, water mains, storm sewers, reinstatement of the roadway surface and sidewalks.

A Public Information Centre regarding this project has been scheduled on Thursday, February 7th from 5 to 7pm. The Contractor, Consultant, as well as County and Town staff will be present to answer any questions. The PIC takes place at Greater Napanee Town Hall, 124 John Street in Napanee.
 


September 21, 2018 - Public Notice

Phase 2 of Digging Downtown Napanee has essentially complete! The top lift of asphalt has now been applied to Dundas Street East, and line painting has  finished. The three blocks affected by the project are now open to through traffic. 

You’re invited to come check out the fresh look, stamped crosswalks and the accessible patio at the southwest corner of John and Dundas Streets. Please be aware that new traffic signals have been installed at the intersection of Dundas Street and East Street. This intersection, along with the intersection of Dundas & John Street will be operating as all-way stops until traffic signal work is completed in the coming weeks.

September 9, 2018 - Public Notice

Phase 2 of Digging Downtown Napanee will soon be complete! Beginning on Monday, September 10th, Dundas Street East from Centre Street to Adelphi in Napanee will be CLOSED TO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC. This road closure is required to allow the paving crews to pave the final lift of asphalt as well as apply the final paint markings. Pedestrian access is not affected by this closure and businesses are open. Please note that the traffic signals at the Dundas Street/Centre Street intersection will be operating. We appreciate your patience during this construction.


August 1, 2018 - Public Notice

The work on Dundas Street East is progressing well. Commencing on Thursday, August 2nd the first block of Dundas Street East from Centre Street to John Street will be OPENED TO TRAFFIC. The John Street intersection at Dundas Street East will also be opened to traffic. Please note that the John Street intersection will be operating as a temporary all-way stop. Please watch for pedestrians. The traffic signals at Dundas Street and Centre Street will be re-activated.

Dundas Street East from the east side of John Street to Adelphi Street will continue to be closed. See attached map illustrating the road closure and detour route. Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrian access.

Ongoing notices will be circulated when the road closure and traffic detours change as the work progresses to the east.

Commencing on Monday, June 11th the road closure on Dundas Street East will be extended to include the East Street intersection.  See attached map illustrating the road closure and detour route. Both John Street and East Street will be closed at Dundas Street but LOCAL TRAFFIC (not thru traffic) can by-pass the barricades to enter John Street and East Street.  Emergency access to the closed blocks will be under the direction of on-site construction staff.

Ongoing notices will be circulated when the road closure and traffic detours change as the work progresses to the east.   

 


May 24, 2018 - Public Notice

Commencing on Monday, May 28th the road closure on Dundas Street East will be extended to East Street.  See attached map illustrating the road closure and detour route.  A reminder that John Street is closed at Dundas Street but LOCAL TRAFFIC (not thru traffic) can by-pass the barricades to enter John Street. This closure is required to allow the excavation works for the replacement of the water main, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and traffic signals.  Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrian access.

This is a reminder that the traffic signals at the intersection of Dundas Street at Centre Street are turned off and this intersection is operating as a temporary ALL-WAY STOP.  Please come to a complete stop and watch for Pedestrians.

May 18, 2018 - Public Notice

Commencing on Wednesday, May 23rd the intersection of Dundas St East and John St will be CLOSED TO ALL VEHICULAR TRAFFIC. This intersection closure is an extension of the current road closure from Centre St to John St. See the map below for closures points and detour routes. LOCAL TRAFFIC (not thru traffic) can by-pass the barricades to enter all LOCAL TRAFFIC / NO EXIT blocks in the area.

April 11, 2018 - Detour routes in effect beginning April 23rd - UPDATED

Beginning on Monday, April 23rd, Dundas Street East between Centre Street and John Street will be closed to vehicular traffic as work will begin on Phase 2 of Diggin' Downtown Napanee. No parking is permitted within this area, but many municipal lots in the vicinity as well as street-side parking in other downtown locations.

Note that Centre Street and John Street intersections will be open to through traffic. Centre Street will be a three-way stop (not traffic lights). Drivers, please watch for pedestrians. All businesses are open and pedestrian access to all stores will be available. Detour routes for through traffic will be using Bridge Street.

April 5, 2018 - Phase 2 Start Date

Construction will soon be underway on Phase 2 of Diggin' Downtown Napanee. The project will involve a storefront-to-storefront removal and replacement of pavement and sidewalks, and the replacement of the sanitary, storm, and water mains in the downtown. 

Phase 2 of the project includes Dundas Street East between Centre Street and Adelphi Street. Road closures and the commencement of work is anticipated to begin on Monday, April 16th, weather permitting. Similar to Phase 1 that took place last year, the work will be completed block by block to reduce traffic issues. All businesses will remain open and accessible throughout construction, and staff will be available to assist downtown visitors during the process.

Motorists are asked to obey traffic signage and detour routes that are placed at each entrance to the downtown area. 


March 29, 2018 - Barr Construction Presentation

In preparation of the beginning of Phase 2 of Diggin' Downtown Napanee, contractors Barr Construction prepared a presentation on March 28th. Construction and road closures along Dundas Street East between Centre Street & John Street are expected to begin mid-April. March 23, 2018 - Public Notice

Works have commenced on Diggin’ Downtown Phase 2 with construction crews planning and preparing to set up temporary water supply services to the rear of the buildings on the first block (Centre St to John St). There will not be any road closures during this preliminary work. Notices will be circulated when crews are scheduled to close the first block to vehicular traffic and commence with the roadway excavation. Lennox & Addington County will be offering support to businesses in the downtown during the reconstruction project.

Communications will be key to a successful project. Our goal is to ensure that all BIA members feel connected and involved during construction. The County of Lennox and Addington will be leading construction communications. BIA Members and the public will be kept up to date through a website portal, social media, e-blasts and newsletters.
