I cannot believe how fast the spring is flying by. We have just successfully celebrated our first long weekend of the summer and our thoughts are leaning towards the heat of the sun, toes in sand, water splashes, end of school, and the exciting plans of our summer vacations! Yes, even this weary curator is planning some time away to enjoy the sounds of the ocean and the excited awes of my children as we go whale watching in the Bay of Fundy this summer.

Now that summer is clearly upon us and the weather is warming up, it is once again time to make reading an outside activity. In my opinion, there isn't anything more relaxing...assuming the mosquitos are in check!  Luckily, there are all kinds of great new and forthcoming releases to choose from. Here are five books that are on my radar for summer reading.

County Council recognized Walter Burt for his exceptional leadership over the past 10 years with Lennox & Addington County, and in particular over the past 7 months as Acting Director for Prince Edward Lennox & Addington Social Services. Walter is retiring after a total of 30 years of service in Social Services. Join us as we thank Walter for his excellent service and wish him a happy retirement.

Improved Cell Coverage coming to Lennox and Addington County

Members of Lennox and Addington County Council were delighted by the provincial funding announcement of $71 million to expand and improve wireless broadband infrastructure across Eastern Ontario.

Last week, Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure, Monte McNaughton announced that the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) will receive the funding to help fill gaps in mobile broadband coverage. Currently there are significant gaps in both the reach and capacity of mobile broadband networks across areas of rural Eastern Ontario including significant gaps in Lennox and Addington.

National Access Awareness Week - May 26 to June 1, 2019

The County of Lennox and Addington is recognizing National Access Awareness Week by highlighting the work of the Accessibility Advisory Committee and its ongoing initiatives to increase accessibility for people with disabilities in our community.  

Established in 1988, this observance is in response to a request from Canadian Paralympic athlete Rick Hansen following his Man in Motion World Tour. Rick leads the charge in removing barriers faced by people with disabilities.

Quinte Conservation Issues a Flood Warning For Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte

Lake Ontario water levels have been quickly rising over the past week. Lake Ontario will continue to rise as high inflows and reduced outflows continue.

As of May 15, 2019, Lake Ontario was recorded at 68 cm above average for this time of year, which is 14 cm below the recorded level for May 15, 2017. This amount is 17 cm below the peak recorded on May 25, 2017.
