A new series of interesting "Archives Learning Labs" have been scheduled to take place at the Lennox & Addington County Museum & Archives, located at 97 Thomas Street East in Napanee.

The first lab entitled "The Home Archivist" is on Saturday, September 23rd from 9am - noon. Kyla Ubbink, book and paper conservator, will provide those in attendance with the skills needed to save and preserve various treasured family items.

Kayla will provide simple and practical archival preservation techniques to stop the deterioration of historic family documents, letters, photographs, albums, clippings, books, memorabilia and scrapbooks. Attendees will learn about safe handling techniques, explore digitization options, and gain knowledge in regular maintenance and basic treatments that can be applied at home. Kyla will give demonstrations on how to clean books and paper, remove clips and staples, separate photographs from ‘sticky’ album pages, and give tips on how to make simple acid-free folders.

The cost for “The Home Archivist” Learning Lab is only $8 ($3 museum admission and $5 for materials). Advance registration is required by calling 613-354-3027.
