Supervisor:           Supervisor/Manager of Social Assistance

Hours of Work:    8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday

Salary Range:      $27.93 to $32.86 per hour


  • Post-Secondary Education (College Diploma or University Degree) in a related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a related field
  • Excellent understanding and experience in the application of the Ontario Works Act, Regulations and Policy Directives
  • Experience and knowledge of the technologies utilized in the administration of social assistance
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate benefit adjustments and overpayments and manage them within social assistance technologies
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication (oral and written), problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle


The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities would be the completion of applications for basic financial assistance and determining eligibility pursuant to the Ontario Works Act and Regulations, applications for the Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative Program and applications for assistance for services provided by other PELASS program areas, while operating within the legislative and regulatory standards as set out in the applicable provincial and municipal acts, and within the County of Lennox & Addington local policies, procedures and guidelines. The principal emphasis is to determine initial eligibility for financial assistance. The primary duties would include but not to be limited to:

  • Complete applications for Financial Assistance and determine eligibility and level of entitlement
  • Complete applications for the Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative, Social Housing & Child Care Fee Subsidy
  • Enter information using required databases
  • Respond to inquiries
  • Maintain statistics and well-documented files
  • Develop and maintain linkages with community partners
  • Participate in committees as required
  • Review terminated files from a quality assurance perspective
  • Provide caseworker services to site offices as required
